The Fantastic Mr Fox motorcycle and side car

This bike was used in the rescue sequence of the film, it had to hold four figures and have adjustable front suspension, working steering, brake levers and lights.

On this production they were animating in three different scales, we were asked to build three identical bikes in the required scales.

 

 

This was the smallest, a diecast toy we adapted to match the full size bike. The only way i could make working lights was to run fibreoptics through to them…

Here’s the medium size, roughly 150mm in length, again an adapted toy…A screen shot with both small and medium bikes on show.

 

 

And the large scale, around 470mm in length, this was 100% built from scratch. It incorporated a steel frame, vacuum formed mudguards, turned PVC Mag wheels, chemiwood engine and tank, working lights and indicators, silicone rubber tyres… and more.Large bike screenshot…Large bike…Spoked wheels are always “fun” to make, this pair were for the sidecar…
